Designed for the room
- Emergency you can't miss — a large recessed dome with a light ring. Two switches sit under it, so a single failed switch still raises the call, and the disagreement is reported as a fault.
- Cancel and presence — a backlit cancel bar. Staff presence shows green on the point and on the ward board.
- Reassurance that means something — the halo changes to steady red when the head end has received the call, not just when the button was pressed.
- Calm at night — lighting follows the ward's day/night schedule, so the point is a soft locator glow at 3 am, not a bright panel.
- Clean — a one-piece moulding with no visible screws and a sealed silicone keypad that wipes down with hospital disinfectant.
Two buses, one point
A jumper selects the bus. On the Southerly RS-485 room bus every point is polled and supervised: calls, call types, faults, lighting, configuration and firmware all travel on one twisted pair, and a point that stops answering raises a fault within half a second. On an existing two-wire call loop the same point takes its place on the loop as a direct replacement, so a ward can be modernised room by room and moved to the RS-485 bus later.
Knows who is in the room
A Bluetooth radio listens for staff badges and an infrared beacon marks the room, so presence and response times can be recorded automatically rather than relying on a staff member remembering to press a button.
Wiring
Two plug-in terminal blocks at the rear cable entry — wire the plugs, then clip the point on. Bus: D+ · D− · V+ · GND. Field I/O: IN1 · IN2 · OUT1 · OUT2 · 12V · GND · GND, for a bedhead pendant socket, pull cord or bed sensor on the supervised inputs, and an over-door light, light relay or local buzzer on the outputs. An expansion header is reserved for a lighting-control interface.
