Faults stay small
Each of the sixteen ports is galvanically isolated, with its own power converter, current limit and RS-485 repeater. A shorted cable, a damaged over-door light or an earth fault takes out at most four rooms, and the rest of the ward keeps calling. The hub reports the tripped segment to the gateway straight away.
Sized so nothing is marginal
A segment is limited to four rooms and 90 m of cable, so it stays inside its power budget even with every room at full load at once. The hub counts the devices on each port when they're addressed and flags a fifth as a configuration fault, so an installer can't overload a segment by mistake.
Standby power
Power comes from an external rack-mount 48 V DC-UPS on two independent inputs, A and B. Either one can carry the ward. Batteries are sized for four hours of standby, and the hub passes UPS alarms such as mains fail and battery low to the gateway and to a dry-contact fault relay for the BMS.
Fails safe
The ports keep powering and repeating even if the hub's own controller stops. The controller adds monitoring, not a single point of failure.
